Let's see where to begin...going through everything that we were supposed to have completed over the past few weeks, I realized that I've learned alot. From giving our reflections on the library, to learning how to use the libary catalogs on topics we randomly chose, to reading and writing our thoughts about e-books on discussion forum 5, to write about our topics for our research project, to writing blog reflection 1 on what we thought we learned so far and if we thought we are learning things that might be useful to our continuing education in college, to learning how to navigate the library website and using different search engines, and finally doing assignment 3 which was a little pain in the rear, but manageable. Of course that doesn't mean the end to the endless torture of homework, but none the less it has to be done.
I know I sound a little harsh about assignment 3, and about the other assignments I've yet to complete but oh well, this is my blog and that's how I feel. With that said, I'm going to continue, anyways... going to the library used to be fun for me when I was younger, now, not so much as fun but a necessity for me to get a away from all of this hassle at my so called "home" so I can do my homework in peace. However I can't always do that, due to my other half and responsibility so when I can get a away and go to the library which is rare, I try to enjoy it a little. Noticing that it has changed alot since I've been a kid. Although we do have countless and on-going access to 411 on the net, the library still can be useful on checking out books. Also if you don't have access to the net at your house, the library does provide computers with the net on them, the only thing is, there is a time limit. But seriously, who needs to check out books anymore when you have e-books, and kindles and also book stores?? E-books are useful but they don't have every books in this world, and also I for one am not ashamed to say that I could still use a library because I am broke and I can't afford to buy a new book all of the time.
The internet has a great impact on my life, not only does it allow me to do research, it also let's me keep in touch on specific websites, with people I have lost contact with in high school and from family members who live in other states. Certain websites like myspace, facebook are a keeper, although it is a bit scary to post information that you know other people can get. All in all I say the internet is a big help, and it also can be entertaining since it has music and children's websites for my daughter. I love Nickelodeon and Disney!! :)

Project 1: Library Visit

The library that I most recently visited was of course the closest one to my parents house. The Lakewood Library, currently called Angelo M. Iacoboni Library, which was reopened on February 12,2001 after several months of renovation is located on 4990 Clark avenue, Lakewood California. The telephone number is 562-866-1777, and the website address is http://www.colapublib.org/libs/iacoboni/.
I don't exactly know what the seating capacities are for this library and the services are okay there. In my opinion, the librarians and workers are people who don't know what they are doing, I say this because of my last visit was kind of horrible, but who knows what other people think. There are approximately 253,404 books from different selections such as Science fiction, Fiction, Adult Romance, Children's books, Young adults, books on different languages like Arabic and Chinese, DVDs, CDs, books on CDs, videos and magazines. The internet access there is great and can only be used with a valid library card, but unfortuanently you do have to wait, sometimes for a period of up to an hour and a half. They do however have Express computers which you can use with a valid library card and can go online for 15 minutes but sometimes people don't follow that rule and tend to hog the the computer up.
All those materials that I mentioned up above are usually what the public can check-out. The only books they don't let people check out however are the Library of Congress Subject Headings books. They are usually pretty good about letting you keep the materials you checked out for a good 3 weeks or so also. Three services that are available at this library are the computers with internet access, the computers with the catalogs on them which don't offer internet access, and of course the information desk which contain two people who sit behind to answer your questions. They also provide services for the children of Lakewood which allows the children to do story telling and they can also use the computers from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M.
I used to love going to this library, especially when I was in Elementary school and didn't have anything else better to do in the summers. How I see it now and how I remembered it then is different, especially how the library cards looked. Our old library card were green with gold writing on it that said lakewood library. Now the library cards look like the picture up above. How boring! Also the services upgraded indefinently and I say this because they never had express computers and the computers then were old and these computers of course are new with easy to search catalogs. It's still one floor, but that's okay I do prefer that over two story libraries. I hope those of you who haven't visited this library, visit it at least once in your lifetime, and I really do hope that after reading this blog it doesn't scare you away from visting this historic landmark. :)
Blog Reflection 1
I feel that I am learning some valuable knowledge that is useful towards my continuing education in college because I've learned how to use some websites that make it easier for me to do my research. I also never really browsed the lbcc online voyage catalog either up until I participated on Discussion forum 4. This is not my first online class, the other one I took was a computer, typing and keyboarding which I had to withdraw from because it required alot of my time and if I ever made a mistake I always had to re-due the assignments.
Sadly yes, there is something I disliked about the class and that was doing assignment 2. It's alot harder for me to find time to do that extensive research in those books, time which is limited for me, which is why I still haven't gotten the chance to complete it I'm afraid. The only time I felt like saying a ha was when I browsed through all of those online catalogs from the different schools, and found the information about my topic for Discussion 4.
I am hoping that as time passes I will learn to love this class because of the fact that I was so intrigued on what it felt like to be a librarian when I was younger. Reading, researching and studying is how I am getting through college, and I hope that one day I will be able to pass this knowledge that I am receiving on to my daughter, when the time comes.

Come inside my head...
Ha so originally my first post was short and a tester, there fore it was boring!! Anyway I am updating it because I can...
Well I already introduced myself in the introduction on my profile, so no need to go into that one again. I've never had a blog before for a class, I only like to do random blogging on my myspace, which I am addicted too. I am looking forward to seeing what this class would do for me, since this is my first lib class.
Thanks for reading this, I am hoping that my other blogs will be more creative and no I am not a comp. geek, I just have alot of time on my hands. :)
