Blog number 5, Last and final post

Well seeing as how I just completed blog number 4 I decided to do this one as well. There is nothing much I can do for my great grandmother but to wait and see how she is, so here goes my homework...

Being as how this is the last blog I wanted to get a head start, and I also just wanted to say thank you Dena for your patience with me, and for teaching me everything in that short amount of time while dealing with your new addition who is beautiful by the way. I am sorry for letting you down on assignment number 2, I realized I was just going to give up on that because the nearest library didn't have current Library of Congress books, they were from the year 1999. I doubt that would have worked right? I also never had any time to go to the lbcc library because they were already closed when I would go there for my math class at night. Alright well enough posting b.s. and excuses, what's done is done!

My online experience was okay, actually it was better than my first one, so there is your answer for that question. I feel that I had less student interaction but I expected that because hey this is the net, not a real class room. If I wanted more student interaction I would have taken this class in person but then again I probably would have done worse than what I did. For a class like this I prefer the net, but for another class I prefer face to face, it wasn't difficult to figure things out for myself.

No there are no other things I learned from another online class that I would like to have seen here. Every online class is different, especially if the online class is about math or computer keyboarding. Those subjects have nothing to do with this class so they wouldn't have worked. People who argue that online classes are harder are just plain illiterate, or they are lazy. It's true that it can be harder because you have to teach your self, but honestly in person classes can be harder too. For instance I just finished a 6 wk summer math class, it was hard and being that it was only 6 wks, I had to basically teach myself in there as well. Sure I had a teacher, but I learned better from me haha.. So you see if anything I would say they are equal.

If there was a face-to face workshop for this class I probably wouldn't have attended it because it's hard for me to leave in the daytime. I had that math class that I just mentioned up above every night, and I don't have anybody to watch my daughter in the daytime so you see it wouldn't have worked well with my schedule. If things were different, if I had my own car and I wasn't so stuck at home then sure I would have love to attend a face-to face workshop, only to see you in person and my other peers that were also taking this class with me. It's neat getting to know the other people who are taking the class as well because then we probably could have traded phone numbers with each other if any of us have a question. I'm sure that probably could have helped you out also since you had a new baby, and trust me new babies are alot of work as toddlers are also. :)

P.S. I am still debating as to whether or not I am going to continue to write on this blog site. If you see another post after the class, there is your answer.

Blog 4

Well I know this is 2 days late, but hey I've been dealing with family issues, my great grandmother was admitted into the hospital this weekend and isn't doing so well, she's already gotten 2 strokes, and has alzheimers. Well so anyways here is my blog now...

Well in answer to Dena's question yes I do think information competency is important, especially after reading the definition lol. I think all students should learn how to locate, evaluate and use appropriate information especially if they have to do a research project or paper. Like I said in my last blog, I will always have something negative to say, but I just can't help that, but in truth this class has taught me a thing or two so I highly recommend it, even if I didn't recommend it for myself. Does that make any sense? I know I'm weird right?? HA...

After completing this one class I wouldn't exactly call myself an information competent student. It's true I learned quite a few things such as accessing websites I never new existed, especially on the lbcc library page such as proquest, I also learned how to tell which websites are fake and which are real. Students who have taken the time out of their days to learn more from other library classes are information competent students, but me nah. As much as I love the library, I don't see myself going very far with this, especially if it means that I have to take another lib class. Don't get me wrong, Dena is a great teacher, I just realized this class isn't for me eventhough I stuck it out. It's better to stick something out than to quit right?

By the way that's not a rhetorical question...

After this course is over, to be honest I have no clue what I should do to improve my competency skills. I can see if I can go to the library more often and use what I have learned so far, but that's about it. I will always use what I learn in the near future from this class and from any other class I take except math because I hate that subject. I do have to admitt this, even though this class was quite boring to me, I'm going to miss it. There I go again for being difficult lol... it's the truth though, and as a matter of fact I have nothing more negative to say. There were only 2 assignments I disliked, but other than that everything was alright. :)

Let's see what to title this?? O wait, I know how about Blog Reflection 3. Sounds nice don't ya think??

HAHA enough messing around, now for me to do the assignment. By the way that's what being bored does to you. Alright well moving on, I certainly noticed that my opinion has changed some what about the research process, and eventhough all of the information I have been retaining is a bit over whelming at times, and it may give me a headache from reading it all, haha just kidding, I have to admitt that all in all it was worth the time and effort I put into it and it was helpful. Although, what I really found frusturating and I disliked greatly because my head was hurting after I finished it was this past assignment, assignment number 5. It was annoying and frusturating to me because we had to use all of those different refernce sources on the net, and sometimes a link wouldn't work, and that also took up alot of my time so I am hoping that I do get a decent grade on it. From surving these past few weeks, I've come to the realization that eventhough I may start to like this class, not only because it's coming to an end, but because I do learn alot of new stuff I've never knew existed, I will always complain about something. I know that maybe annoying to most of you, but whatever, to each his own right? This class does teach you a thing or two, but it is alot of time, and you have to be really bored to just sit there and research all of this stuff. Honestly, had I known it was going to be a pain in my rear, I wouldn't have taken it by choice, but I had to since it is a requirement so I had to deal. Now I know why the counselor said not many people actually take a library class. HA...alright well enough talking crap about this course, it really did have it's good points like I mentioned above because it will teach you a thing or too so it's not a complete waste. I can say this though, in the near future for a research paper, I will have different techniques I could use for myself to do my paper, and maybe then I wouldn't do so horribly and only get a C on it. Thanks Dena for all of the knowledge you've past down to me, eventhough half of this post was whinning, your a great teacher! :)
